FARMERS belonging to the Talaandig indigenous community thanked the Environment department for ordering the management of the 480-hectare Villalon Ranch in Maramag, Bukidnon to stop intruding into areas they cultivate.

Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Ramon Paje issued an order on April 30 that compelled the ranch management to quit harassing the indigenous farmers.

QUEZON CITY – Indigenous people’s leaders and human rights activists from Mindanao protested in front of the main office of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) today in condemnation of the ongoing bombing and combat operations by military forces in their mining-affected communities.

A SON of murdered lumad leader and village chief of Dao, San Fernando Bukidnon, Jimmy Liguyon, has filed a complaint before the regional offices of Commission on Human Rights (CHR) and National Commission on Indigenous Peolple (NCIP) to pursue charges against suspect Alde Salusad and an armed group. 300 Manobos Asserting their Right to their Ancestral Lands Fired at by Guards of Montalvan Ranch

Security guards of the ranch of Pablo Lorenzo, Jr., headed by Joy Pedutche, a former member of the Philippine Army, fired at Manobo families who were trying to reclaim their ancestral land on March 28.

They said that as early as 5:00 in the morning, there were already armed guards monitoring them. Pedutche was carrying an M16, another guard was carrying an M14, another a garan, while another two held shotguns.
