DCMI has recently heard reports from the community on Canatuan that mine tailings from TVI's operations have been leaking out into the Lumot Creek. This creek runs into the Lituban River which, in turn, runs into the Siocon River and to the coastal area.

One witness has stated that the she saw TVI employees fixing a pipe that had been deliberately opened in order to let the tailings escape and prevent flooding. Other witnesses have told us that they when they were down at Lumot creek they smelt cyanide and saw the creek turn a reddish colour. They also reported seeing many fish and eels dead and dying in the water. The witnesses took pictures which they attached to their report.
